Commonplace book concerning Quakers, 1773-1814.

Manuscript volume in a single hand containing a wide selection of texts written by or concerning Quakers, as well as minutes of Quaker meetings. The volume opens with a version of Elizabeth Ashbridge's autobiography, here titled "Some Account of the Forepart of the Life of Elizabeth Ashbridge." Other contents include copies of testimonies, letters, and prophecies by Quakers in Great Britain and America, particularly Pennsylvania; obituaries of Quaker notables; devotional verse by Addison, Pope and others; and a few copies of anti-slavery and anti-imperial tracts, including "Letter by the Negro Prince....to his master in Maryland;" "A Speech Delivered by an Indian chief in reply to a Swedish missionary;" and "A petition sent by a Black Princess to Governor Hastings while he was in India." The last pages of the volume contain genealogical notes on the Jackson family.
